The pommels of my swords are made with chirurgical steel s300, which resembles silver, but is very strain and rust resistant. The first tep is preparing a model, then a silicone cast. Thanks to that I can make wax models of the pommels. In order to obtain a metal cast you need to layer a couple of layers of ceramic coating onto the wax – this is later moved into a furnace: the wax melts, the ceramic hardens and you get a negative. All that is left is to fill it with molten metal, remove the ceramic coating and then spend a couple hours on detailing the rough pommel cast.
